Vyvanse is a prescription medication that is used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is also known to help people who have binge eating disorder. This medicine is in a class of medications called stimulants. It works by changing the levels of certain chemicals in the brain. It increases focus and attention and decreases symptoms of binge eating. It can also improve impulse control. It is often used with therapy and other treatments to help treat ADHD.
It is available in capsule and chewable tablet form. It can be taken with or without food. It can also be mixed with liquids such as yogurt, water, or orange juice. The mixture should be consumed right away and should not be stored. It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Missing doses can make the drug less effective. It may be helpful to use a medication reminder or set an alarm to remind you to take your medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about a medication schedule and reminders.
You should not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. It can increase some of the side effects. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease or kidney problems. If you have liver or kidney problems, your doctor will probably want to reduce your dose.
This medication can cause slow growth (height and weight) in children. It can also cause a problem with the circulation in the fingers and toes, called peripheral vasculopathy or Raynaud’s phenomenon. This problem is more common in younger children, but it can happen to anyone. Tell your HCP if you or your child have pain or discomfort in the fingers and toes that is not relieved with treatment.
Abuse & Dependence
This medicine and other amphetamine containing medicines have a high chance of abuse and dependence. Your HCP should check you or your child regularly for signs of abuse and dependence. Tell your HCP if you or you have ever abused alcohol or illegal drugs.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
This drug can harm an unborn baby or cause withdrawal in a newborn. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor right away. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine. It passes into breast milk and can cause unwanted effects in a nursing infant.
It is important to tell your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, especially if you have heart or blood vessel disease, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. It is also important to tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines, vitamins, and nutritional supplements. Vyvanse can interact with some of these medicines and can cause dangerous side effects.
This medication can raise the level of serotonin in your body. If you take it with other medicines that raise serotonin levels, such as SSRIs or SNRIs, it can lead to a dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome. This includes feelings of agitation, hallucinations, seizures, fast heart rate, involuntary muscle twitching, high fever, and changes in your blood pressure, pulse, or breathing. vyvanse 60 mg capsule
