How to Do a Commercial Lock Change

During the course of running your business or office, it is likely that you will need to call in a locksmith. You may need to have locks rekeyed after an employee leaves, or you might want to change your lock style for a new look. Whatever the reason, it is important to have a local locksmith that you can count on to handle your Commercial lock change needs.

In some cases, you may just need to replace a door latch or strike plate instead of the entire lock. If this is the case, then you should try to match up the new plates with the old ones, if possible, to save on costs. Typically, you can use the existing screws to install the new latch and strike plate, just make sure they are long enough.

If the new latch is a different model than the old one, then you will need to purchase the correct screws for it. Again, it is best to stick with the same brand and model so that you can ensure that they fit properly.

Once you have all of the right screws, begin by removing the screw that holds the faceplate in place. You can do this by using a flat-head screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the lock and turn it in a counter-clockwise direction. Once the spindle stops spinning, push in on the square tab with the screwdriver. This should release the lock cylinder from the housing.

After releasing the commercial lock cylinder from the housing, you can now remove the knob from the door handle. On the inside, or non-keyed side of the knob, you will see a small hole near where it meets the handle. The poke tool that came with your latch should have a small pointy end that can poke into this hole and release a springed clip. If the tool isn’t available, you can usually get the job done with a strong toothpick or the end of a wire coat hanger.

Now that you have the lock cylinder removed, you can start working on installing the new latch. If you’re going with the same model as before, then simply reinstall the latch and the strike plate that comes with it. Once that is complete, you can test out the latch by locking and unlocking the door with your key. If everything works correctly, you can now go ahead and install the rest of your hardware. Just be careful not to overtighten the screws, as this can damage the door. The most important thing to remember is that Commercial lock change can be a complex and sometimes complicated process. It is important to have a trustworthy and experienced commercial locksmith that you can trust to help keep your business safe and secure. Doing so will help to ensure that your customers and employees feel safe, and that your business can thrive in a competitive environment. Commercial lock change
